Around 1937 or before he bought a gold-digger concession in Beneden Para together with two fellow Englishman named Percy and Stanley.

He made use of this concession for several years after which he became a civil Mechanical engineer at the Dutch Army in Paramaribo.

Around 1938 he married Hendrina Margaretha Kardjo.
She was Dutch / Indonesian , Born 09 Aug 1913 and died 25 Nov 1953
